Perfume is capable of having
such a strong effect on our emotions and my
best work goes beyond just smelling nice and
offers something more – a state of mind
or a sensation that lifts your day or night
above the ordinary. In all of my work I am
seeking to go beyond just the smell of the
ingredients I use.
With this perfume I wanted
to create a feeling of serenity.
We have so much excess
around us and I wanted to create something
that could offer some peace – a perfume
refuge if you like that when you entered it
would offer a calm sense of being.
The perfume is a muguet
(lily of the valley) which has been supported
on a white floral background composed of Indian
jasmine and ylang ylang oil from the Comoro
Islands. These notes really underline that
idea of simplicity and purity and you have
to avoid the temptation to overcomplicate
them. Leaving space in perfumery seems to
be less and less fashionable - maybe the perfume
marketers aren’t prepared to take the
risk.
An added element of the gentleness I was looking
for comes from the use of aquatic notes based
around that freshness you get on a quiet sea
shore with some gentle wind blowing. I blended
that with touches of fruit - I used a little
melon and traces of beautiful rich orange.
When you create a fragrance like this you
really have to use superb ingredients because
there’s nowhere to hide if the accords
are slightly out of balance or there are some
impurities in the oils - I have used the best
ingredients around and, in my view, it really
shows.
I hope you agree and I
hope you get to enjoy the perfume in all the
products its been adapted for.
